Mourinho explained that it was not his primary motive to see the PL giants get relegated, but rather see to it that justice is served, whatever that may entail.

The Special One has never been one to shy away from speaking his mind. He proved it today yet again, as Jose Mourinho clarified his stance on Manchester City’s alleged FFP breaches saga, stating that he doesn’t necessarily want City to be relegated but just wants ‘justice’.

City have hogged the headlines over the past year for their alleged breach of FFP rules, originally amounting to 115 offences as such, and the case has now gone to trial.

Many have openly criticised Guardiola’s side, with Pep himself coming out and stating that many clubs want to see them get relegated.

“I cannot say yet because we’re awaiting the sentence in February or March…I read something about the situation and how you need to be relegated immediately. Seventy-five per cent of the clubs want it, because I know what they do behind the scenes and this sort of stuff,” Guardiola stated earlier this year in a press conference.

But, his rival and former Manchester United, Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has come out and clarified his stance on the same.

Mourinho explained that it was not his primary motive to see the PL giants get relegated, but rather see to it that justice is served, whatever that may entail.

“It’s not true that I want Man City to be relegated. But, it is true that I like justice,” stated Mourinho at his presser.

“Many times, small clubs are punished for going 5-10 pounds over their budget. I don’t think it’s fair that the big financial sharks always find a way to escape the rules.

“I’m just a man that loves football. I am very passionate and I just like justice. No bad feelings,” exclaimed the Fenerbahce boss.

City’s saga only got more dramatic as the defending Premier League champions are now reportedly facing trial for an updated 130 FFP breaches, 15 more than the originally mentioned 115 charges.

A common misconception around the case has been that City are facing 115 charges when the English side have actually been accused of breaching the rules 130 times originally itself.

The extra 15 charges didn’t just appear out of nowhere, either, as it was reported by The Times back in August 2024 that there was an issue with the Premier League’s reporting process at the time.

The ruling for the trial is set to be released only in 2025. So, in the meantime, Guardiola would be tasked with revitalising the champions, who have been in the midst of an unprecendented loss of form, leading to the side dropping to fourth on the PL table, 8 points off table-toppers Liverpool.

They will be looking to change their fortunes and regain their momentum as City takes on Juventus in the UEFA Champions League on Thursday.
