The Critics Choice Awards, which were set to take place in Santa Monica on Sunday and air live on E!, have been postponed amid the wildfires currently raging across Los Angeles. A new date has not yet been announced but is expected to come shortly.
The event was set to be held at Barker Hangar, which is located just a few miles from the Pacific Palisades where thousands have been evacuated and many homes destroyed, along with a separate fire that is ravaging the Pasadena-Altadena area. Chelsea Handler is hosting the awards show for the third consecutive year, with Wicked, Conclave and Shogun among the top nominees.
Critics Choice joins a number of other Hollywood events that have been affected in recent days, including premieres for Wolf Man and Unstoppable on Tuesday; Better Man, The Pitt and On Call on Wednesday and The Last Showgirl on Thursday. The annual BAFTA Tea Party scheduled for Saturday in Beverly Hills was also canceled, and the AFI Awards, a starry luncheon honoring the 10 best movies and TV shows of the year, was also postoned.
So far, events scheduled for New York have remained on the books, as the National Board of Review held its NYC awards gala on Tuesday and New York premieres for American Primeval, Back in Action and Goosebumps: The Vanishing have not yet been canceled. The AARP Awards scheduled for Saturday currently still remain on schedule.
