English midfielder Dele Alli confirmed that he would depart Premier League side Everton, amid talks linking him to join up with former Spain star Cesc Fabregas, who serves as the head coach of Italian side Como.

Alli, once widely touted as the next best thing in football, failed to live up to the hype due to his struggles with injuries and mental health issues.

The Englishman broke out onto the scene with his performances for MK Dons, before Tottenham came calling. He began life with Spurs in fine fashion as he made a name for himself with the Lillywhites, but his performances went downhill and he made a switch to Everton in a bid to rekindle his career.

However, his stint with the Toffees did not go to plan and was loaned out to Turkish side Besiktas in 2022 before returning to England at the end of the year.

His contract with the Merseyside club ended in June earlier in the year but he has continued to train at Goodison Park.

Alli posted a message expressing his gratitude to everyone at Goodison Park as he confirmed his exit from the club.

“As widely published this week, 2025 may set me on a new path with some exciting opportunities. Before any of that happens it’s very important for me to make clear how grateful I am of all the fans, staff and players at Everton FC for the support they have given me,” Alli began.

“It’s been an incredibly tough journey trying to put the final pieces together to regain match fitness and I cannot thank the Everton staff enough for the hard work they have put into this process,” he added.

“Unfortunately things haven’t worked out as we all would have hoped and I think it’s the right time for me to turn a new page,” the Englishman continued.

“I want to wish everyone at this amazing club the very best of luck and hopefully we will see each other again soon,” read the post on Instagram.
