Taylor Swift has officially become the most decorated artist in the history of the Billboard Music Awards.
After going into the 2024 awards show tied with Drake as the highest-winning musician with 39 awards apiece, Swift emerged victorious Thursday night.
She won 10 awards, the most of any artist during the 2024 BBMAs, from 17 nominations, including top artist, top female artist and top streaming songs artist.
Her other wins were for top Billboard 200 artist, top Hot 100 artist, top Hot 100 songwriter, top radio songs artist, top Billboard global 200 artist, top Billboard global (excluding the U.S.) artist and top Billboard 200 album for The Tortured Poets Department.
Drake, meanwhile, was nominated for 8 awards this time around; he won 3.
“Hello, I just want to say hi and thank you,” said Swift in a pre-recorded speech. “Thank you to the Billboard Awards. Thank you to the fans, because Billboard is counting your stuff. They’re counting what you listen to, the albums that you’re passionate about. And so, I count these as fan-voted awards because you guys are the ones who care about our albums and come see us in concert.”
She continued, “Everything that’s happened with the Eras Tour and The Tortured Poets Department … I just have to say thank you. It means the world to me that you guys have embraced the things I have made and the fact that you care so much about my music [means a lot].
“This is like the nicest early birthday present you could have given me, so thank you very much. I love it, it’s exactly what I wanted,” Swift, who turns 35 on Dec. 13, shared at the end of her speech.
The pop superstar nabbed her first Billboard awards in 2011, taking home top Billboard 200 artist, top country artist and top country album for Speak Now.
It’s been a big year for Swift. She wrapped up her massive Eras Tour, which began in March 2023, in Vancouver on Sunday. It broke records as the first tour to gross $2 billion. Her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, also received Grammy nominations for best pop vocal album and album of the year. Swift recently broke a different record, as well: She is the only living artist to have five albums in the Billboard 200 chart at the same time.
