As per Manchester Evening News, it was agreed that Echeverri would remain at River Plate until the end of 2024 and there were no plans for the next year. The article went on to claim that the Premier League giants have now decided to bring Echeverri to Manchester in January to join the first-team squad. A first-team debut before the end of the season is also a possibility, if Echeverri puts up an impressive performance in training, suggested the report published by Manchester Evening News.
Another article published by The Sun stated that Manchester City had earlier thought about sending Echeverri to one of their sister clubs so that he could attain European experience. That is still understood to be a possibility for the summer if Echeverri is considered not fit to take up the challenges at Manchester City now.
Echeverri has been in splendid form in the Argentine top-flight this season. He has been representing River Plate regularly and they are in the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores. He first shot to fame at last year’s U-17 World Cup, where he scored a hat-trick in a 3-0 win against Brazil. He had netted five goals in total as Argentina were eliminated by Germany in the semi-finals.
Former Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis, who was River Plate’s manager until July this year, expressed his wholehearted praise for Claudio Echeverri. “Claudio is truly one of the great emerging talents in River’s football. We have a great squad that always produces technically gifted players. However, the day-to-day whirlwind at River demands not only winning but being a protagonist in a very special way, trying to play well,” Demichelis said, as per Manchester Evening News.
“I believe that when you leave River well-formed, you are prepared for anything. Claudio is still in the stage of evolution. He has made a very, very significant leap in recent months. Technically, he is a marvel. We enjoy watching him play, even at such a young age. He caught everyone’s attention. We’ll enjoy him for a while longer and then leave him to you,” Martin Demichelis added.
Manchester City had to deal with a poor series of results this season, across all competitions. In the Premier League, the defending champions currently occupy the fourth spot and they are eight points behind table-toppers Liverpool. In their next match, Manchester City will be up against Juventus in the Champions League.
